Auger boring otherwise known as “Jack and Bore” or “Dry Bore” is a method commonly used under highways and railroad tracks eliminating annular space between casing and soil. Unlike directional drilling/boring auger boring pushes casing or product into the bore hole at the same time it is being bored. A large pit is excavated and the auger boring machine is placed on tracks inside the pit. The auger is placed inside the casing and casing is placed on auger boring machine. Auger boring uses a cutting head for dirt or rock attached to the front auger. The augers remove spoils as they are being bored. Auger boring does not require the use of water but does require large support equipment like a track hoe to remove spoils from bore pit and to lift casing and lower onto the boring machine. Casing sizes up to 54 inches can be installed by this method.
